People who experience social issues can be involved in determining and implementing solutions for providing access to African and African American art.

Community Advisory Boards: Establish advisory boards comprised of residents from underserved communities. They can help shape the direction of the project, curate exhibitions, and suggest programs that resonate with their needs.

Artist Collaborations: Partner with local Black artists to create new works inspired by the existing collection or to develop educational programs This not only provides exposure to established artists but also empowers emerging talent.

Resident Feedback Mechanisms: Create surveys, focus groups, and feedback sessions to gather input from community members. This allows them to express their preferences for types of exhibits, programs, and accessibility features.

Volunteer Opportunities: Offer volunteer opportunities for community members to be involved in various aspects of the project. This could include anything from assisting with workshops to helping with marketing and outreach.

Providing access to African and African American art to underserved communities in Los Angeles can address several social issues.

Representation and Identity: Exposure to art by artists of color can help members of underserved communities, particularly Black communities, see themselves reflected in the artistic landscape. This fosters a sense of belonging and pride in their heritage.
Racial Equity: By showcasing the artistic achievements of African and African American artists, this initiative can help challenge stereotypes and promote a more inclusive understanding of art history and culture.

Educational Attainment: Interactive programs and workshops can provide underserved communities with valuable learning experiences about art, history, and different cultures. This can contribute to a broader understanding of the world and potentially improve academic performance.

Community Building: Shared experiences of art appreciation can bring people together from different backgrounds. This fosters a sense of community and provides a platform for dialogue and understanding.

Social and Emotional Learning: Art exploration can be a powerful tool for social and emotional learning (SEL). Engaging with art can help individuals develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and self-expression.
